
More than 20,000 attendees interested in furthering green initiatives in their companies flooded McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago for the U.S. Green Building Council’s National GreenBuild International Conference and Expo in November. From carpeting and lighting to cleaning products and waste management, industry leaders showcased their latest green products and services at the nation’s largest conference and expo that is focused entirely on green buildings. Bill Clinton delivered the keynote address and Mayors from Chicago, Albuquerque and Austin closed the conference with a discussion on sustainability programs in their communities. All eight Alliance members, Philips Lighting, Forbo Flooring, JohnsonDiversey, Johnson Controls, Kohler Co., Milliken & Company, USG Corp. and Owens Corning, presented sustainable solutions at the sixth annual conference.

IFMA’s World Workplace attracted attendees from around the world related to the facility management profession. The annual conference and exposition, held in New Orleans, La. in October, focuses on keeping facility management professionals on top of the latest technologies. For the second year, the expo floor featured a Green Zone, sponsored by the Alliance for Sustainable Built Environments, where companies showcased the most up to date environmentally-responsible, energy efficient products available. Philips Lighting, Forbo Flooring, JohnsonDiversey, Johnson Controls, Kohler Co., Milliken & Company and The Alliance for Sustainable Built Environments were featured in the Green Zone. Members of the Alliance also delivered presentations in the Sustainability Track on topics including water conservation, green cleaning and LEED.

More than 160 people attended a one-day conference on sustainability and high performance green buildings held in Jacksonville, Fla., September 20, 2007. The 2nd annual e3 conference, was sponsored by JEA, the Alliance for Sustainable Built Environments, Breaking Ground Contracting and Johnson Controls, Inc. Charles Kibert, Ph.D., professor and director of the Powell Center for Construction and Environment at the University of Florida, delivered the keynote presentation on “The Business Case for Green.” Tim Center, executive director of the Council for Sustainable Florida-Collins Center, provided an overview of sustainability in Florida. Other presentations focused on energy management, water conservation, LEED buildings, sustainable lighting and roofing, waste management and greening the supply chain.
